FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Pittsburgh, PA---Residents of Pittsburgh and the surrounding region have witnessed many magnificent displays by Zambelli Fireworks Internationale. However, ‘Imagine Pittsburgh’, as part of Colcom Foundation presents Pittsburgh Celebrates 250 on Saturday, October 4 (Point State Park and the North Shore), will be Zambelli’s pyrotechnical masterpiece. “My father and our family always considered Pittsburgh to be our hometown”, said Dr. George Zambelli, Jr., Chairman, Zambelli Fireworks Internationale. “This would have been his dream production for Pittsburgh.” An innovator extraordinaire in the fireworks industry, the late George Zambelli, Sr. was the first to choreograph displays to music.
There is no greater vista in this country that could showcase such a production. The record 17 launch positions (exceeding the 10 launch positions in ‘Millennium Pittsburgh’ and the 13 positions on the Las Vegas Strip) marks the largest number in the country. Imagine the City of Pittsburgh as the theater with the Golden Triangle as the‘birthday cake’ and its tallest buildings (USX, PPG, Two PNC, One Mellon and Fifth Avenue Place) as candles. Surrounding the City will be the first ever ‘Fire on the Three Rivers’, powered by Consol Energy, and detonated from seven barges (anchored by an additional five barges, for a total of 12 barges) positioned on the Monongahela, Allegheny and Ohio Rivers. The Gateway to the West, the West End Bridge has not been used as a launch position since 2002 and will carry the Zambelli signature Niagara Falls and a rainbow of Roman candles, while dramatic special effects fire from PNC Park. Three additional ’surprise’ first-time launch positions will create powerful large effects throughout the choreography.
The prelude will begin at 9:52pm and the full theatrical production will launch at 10:00pm choreographed to a soundtrack by Pittsburgh Born & Bred artists and broadcast on KDKA-Radio and WTAE-TV.
Zambelli Fireworks Internationale, The First Family of Fireworks, is a true American story of hardwork and global success. In 1893, Antonio Zambelli immigrated to New Castle, PA from Italy. His son George began working with his father at age 7 and eventually grew the business to become a recognized leader in the pyrotechnics industry. George and his wife Connie, along with their children, established the Zambelli Fireworks Manufacturing Company. Zambelli was instrumental in developing and incorporating new technologies in the fireworks industry, including the use of laser lights and electronic and computer firing systems. The incomparable work by Zambelli has been seen in thousands of displays throughout the world, including Times Square, Mount Rushmore, ‘ Welcome America’, ‘Thunder Over Louisville,’ –the nation’s premier display, and for every U.S. President since John F. Kennedy.
